CENRO Ramon Magsaysay personnel retrieves two (2) Philippine Grass Owls (Tyto longimembris) locally known as "Ngiw-ngiw" last June 2, 2020 at Purok 4, Barangay Gabunon, Tambulig, Zamboanga del Sur.

The two birds were captured at the rice fields by Mr. Donie Dagohoy. Out of curiosity, his daughter, Mary Ann, posted the pictures of the birds on her Facebook account last May 31, 2020. CENRO RM personnel then received a call from MENR Officer Jussel M. Abanil that there were 2 birds captured by a resident in their area. CENRO RM, together with the LGU of Tambulig, retrieved and rescued the two birds and later brought them to the Regional Wildlife Rescue Center at Baclay, Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur. The Philippine Grass Owls were found to be in good condition.

CENRO RM gave a lecture to Mr. Dagohoy about RA No. 9147 also known as the "Wildlife Resource Conservation and Protection Act," emphasizing that keeping a wildlife without permit, proper facility and care is illegal. He promised to be an advocate of wildlife conservation and protection.
