The Department of Environment and Natural Resources ( DENR Zamboanga Peninsula ) through its Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO)– Zamboanga del Norte and Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) – Piñan, ZDN, and in partnership with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) participated on the nationwide simultaneous bamboo and tree planting at Mt. Lab, Sto. Niño, Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte on September 13, 2022. DENR personnel headed by OIC-RED and ARD for Technical Services Ronald Gadot, OIC-PENRO Cidur Julsadjiri, CENRO Adelaida Borja together with PENRO and CENRO Piñan ZN personnel went early to the assembly area.
The activity with the theme, “Buhayin ang Pangagalaga sa Kalikasan” was also a joint undertaking with the Department of Agriculture ZAMPEN, City and Provincial Local Government Unit, Barangay Officials, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), Kapisanan ng Brodkaster ng Pilipinas, Youth Volunteers, Non-Government Organizations, Neighboring Communities and Stakeholders to encourage citizenry involvement in protecting, conserving and developing our country’s environment and natural resources.
Armed with own planting implements, over 500 participants occupied the 3 hectares area, planting a total of 2,000 seedlings comprising of Bamboos and Indigenous trees. Thereafter, everyone proceeded to Barangay. Sto. Niño Covered Court, where a brief program was conducted.
“Among the objectives of this activity is to combat climate change. We are using the term Tree Growing to ensure the higher rate of Tree Survival because we don’t just plant trees, but we should also provide extra care for them.”, said RED Gadot. The agency assures to take charge on the monitoring and maintenance of the trees that have been planted through its Forest Protection Officers. Meanwhile, the DILG Region IX represented by their ARD Engr. Carmelo Enrique Libot thanked everyone for making the activity a success.
Through conducting the Simultaneous Tree Planting Activity, the DENR continues to display its commitment on preserving the environment and natural resources for the welfare of the present and future generations.
