CENRO Ramon Magsaysay personnel retrieves a juvenile Brahminy Kite (Haliastur indus) at Purok 1, Poblacion, Mahayag, Zamboanga del Sur on August 8, 2022 at around 1:37 pm.
It was reported that the said bird was caught when it accidentally fell from its nest at Malobo, Mahayag, Zamboanga del Sur and was domesticated by Mr. Zenas C. Dangase for about 3 months to make sure that the bird can already survive on its own.
The said bird was turned over to Vice Mayor Lester Ace Espina in coordination with the MENRO Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) of Mahayag.
Upon initial assessment made by the CENRO personnel, the said bird was found healthy and in good condition.
The Brahminy Kite is now under the custody of the DENR IX Regional Wildlife Rescue Center at Baclay, Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur for proper care and treatment before its release back to its natural habitat.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species listed Brahminy Kite as Least Concerned however, the species is on the decline in some parts in Asia.
