Patawag, Liloy, ZN – The Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Liloy headed by CENR Officer Dionisio B. Rago celebrated World Bamboo Day by planting a total of 75 Giant Bamboo culms (Dendrocalamus giganteus) along the riverbanks of Barangay Patawag, Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte on September 17, 2021.
The said activity bearing this year’s theme, “Alay ng Bayan sa Inang Kalikasan, Kawayan” was participated by Barangay Officials and selected 4Ps members and beneficiaries of the aforementioned barangay covering 0.0525 hectare at 7 meters-distance-each bamboo culms.
An orientation regarding the importance of bamboo was held wherein Supervising Ecosystems Management Specialist/Deputy CENRO Forester Antonio Z. Yanos emphasized that bamboo plays an important role in the environment as it helps lower the light intensity and protects us against ultraviolet rays. It also reduces pollution and carbon dioxide in the climate and delivers more oxygen.
The event was observed following health protocols amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
