he Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region IX in partnership with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) IX and in collaboration with Pagadian Religious Good Shepherd Mission Incorporated celebrates National Women’s Month with the theme: “Women Can Make Change Amidst Climate Crisis and Covid-19", International Day of Forests (IDF) with the theme: "Forest Restoration- A Path to Recovery and Well Being" and World Water Day ( WWD) with the theme "Valuing Water" by conducting a tree growing activity and information drive at Balay Kalinaw and Balay Paglaum, Manga, Pagadian City on March 15, 2021.
 
Dr. Carl Dean Litigio Chairperson of the Religious Good Shepherd Mission Partners Incorporated presented the rationale of the Balay Kalinaw Project and encouraged everyone to join in their "Adopt a Tree Program" at the Balay Kalinaw Native Trees Arboretum and Ecosystem Restoration Project. He said that planting indigenous or native trees can improve the soil quality and can increase the water retention of the soil as well as provide shelter and food for different wildlife.
 
DENR IX Regional Executive Director Crisanta Marlene P. Rodriguez in her message said that successful collaborative partnership with different private and public organizations and agencies are all that we need to achieve a more sustainable and greener environment. People's advocacy in collaboration, involvement and participation in the community are more important to achieve our goals.
 
After the brief opening program, a tree growing activity was conducted by DENR IX, BJMP IX and the congregation personnel wherein 100 indigenous seedlings were planted.
 
An Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign was also conducted to women and children of Balay Paglaum. Topics discussed include the importance of conserving and protecting our forest, solid waste management, Wildlife Resource Conservation and Protection Act or R.A.9147 as well as actual presentation of some rescued wildlife.
 
Moreover, JSInsp. Zsarynha Gay Singson gave a talk on the rights and privileges of women and abused children under Republic Act 9710 or Magna Carta of Women.
 
These activities are efforts of the department to highlight the importance of forest restoration, promoting public awareness on the value of water, solid waste management and wildlife conservation.
