A facebook post of a concerned citizen seeking the help from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) regarding an injured bird in his custody caught the attention of the Wildlife Team of CENRO Guipos in Zamboanga del Sur.
Mr.William Arnejo found a Falcon Dumagat (common name) with a scientific name Falcon Columbarius in his farm in Tigbao, Zamboanga del Sur on February 24, 2022 with 2 injuries in the chest area believed to have been possibly inflicted by an airgun. Thus, he posted in facebook calling the attention of DENR for immediate help.
The wildlife team then met Mr. Arnejo in order to receive and bring the falcon to the Regional Wildlife Rescue Center(RWRC) in Baclay, Tukuran, ZDS. Currently the retrieved Falcon is under treament by veterinarians of the RWRC. Once deemed fully recovered and healthy, it will then be released back to the wild as it continue to serve its purpose in our ecosystem.
As we celebrate WORLD WILDLIFE DAY with a theme "Recovering key species for ecosystem restoration" we urge the public to refrain from causing any harm or danger to any of our wildlife species for they keep our ecosystem balanced.
We all need every living organism that exists in our planet as we are all designed to be interconnected dahil Ikaw, Ako, Tayo ang Kalikasan!
Let us celebrate World Wildlife Day with greater love and appreciation to our Wildlife especially those that are endemic in our area.
The Burlanders Multi-Purpose Cooperative (BMC) 9 held its 45th General Assembly and Election of Officers last March 5, 2022 at Patio Palmeras, Sta. Maria, Zamboanga City.
This annual gathering is being conducted by BMC 9 officers and members to present its annual accomplishments, budget, financial statement, resolutions, discuss other matters that needs the concurrence of the members, election of Board of Directors and committees and payment of dividends and patronage refund.
BMC 9 Chairperson Engr. Winnie Ramos presided the proceedings with Zamboanga City Cooperative Officer Mr. Wilbert Ignacio as guest of honor.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region IX Zamboanga Peninsula joins other government agencies and local government units in the Isabela City People’s Day 2022 dubbed " Pasangen Sin Katabangan Caravan " held at Basilan National High School Covered Court, Eastside Barangay, Isabela City, Basilan on March 1, 2022.
The combined DENR 9 team composed of personnel from the Regional Strategic Communication and Initiatives Group (RSCIG), Mines and Geo-Sciences Bureau (MGB) IX, Environment Management Bureau (EMB) IX, PENRO Zamboanga Sibugay Province, CENRO Zamboanga City and Isabela City Monitoring Station catered to more than 100 participants wherein they gave free consultation on issues concerning the environment and natural resources within the locality.
IEC materials composed of Posters on Solid Waste Management and Geo-Hazards, pamphlets/primers on Residential Free Patents, RA 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, Bamboos, National Greening Program, Earthquakes and Landslides as well as Tayo Ang Kalikasan coloring books were distributed to the local residents. A streamer depicting the celebration of World Wildlife Day was prominently displayed to generate awareness on the occasion.
More than 100 indigenous tree seedlings composed of Lawaan, Yellow trumpet, Red Nato, etc. were also distributed.
The team also prepared games with exciting prizes such as T-Shirts, Tumblers, Alcohol Spray, Tayo Ang Kalikasan Umbrellas, Bags and Hand Fans, Eco-Friendly Cutleries, Plantable Pens and Eco-bags for the participants.
This initiative aims to enhance awareness on the programs and services of DENR IX and to bring the basic services closer to the people from all over the region.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region IX welcomes National Women’s Month 2022 by conducting a blended face to face and virtual region wide Zumba dance exercise on March 2,2022.
This activity aims to jump start the month with positivity and good health not just among women but all genders alike.
Two Philippine Tarsiers (Tarsius syrichta) were retrieved by personnel from the Community Environment and Natural Resources (CENRO) of Liloy in Barangay Delucot, Godod, Zamboanga del Norte early today, March 2, 2022.
The CENRO Liloy team responded to a social media report regarding the capture of two tarsiers in the area which resulted to the retrieval of the mammals.
Upon assessment, the pair were found to be in good and healthy condition and were released back to its natural habitat.
The Philippine Tarsier locally known as “Basing” is classified by the International Union of Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as Near Threatened due to a significant decrease of its population.
They are protected under Republic Act 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Act, which prohibits anybody from hunting, hurting, killing, maiming or keeping them as pets.
These nocturnal mammals are very sensitive and are known to die or commit suicide when held in captivity.
