The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) RegionIX Zamboanga Peninsula conducted a three (3)- Day workshop on carbon stock assessment cum data analysis for ENGP FY 2022 at Chandler Suites, Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur on April 19-21, 2022.
Forty four (44) participants coming from the regional office, PENROs and CENROs of Region IX attended the training workshop. Resource speakers include Forester Joel Briz Orella and Ms. Sharon P. Alves both from Forest and Wetlands Research and Development Extension Center- Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (FWRDEC-ERDB).
In charge Office of the Regional Executive Director Ronald D. Gadot showed full support on the said event. In a message he said that, this training workshop will help capacitate field personnel on carbon sequestration and hopefully this will be implemented in the field as part of their innovations. Plans should be transformed into action.
On the second day, a field practicum was conducted on one of the NGP 2011 rubber plantation site at Barangay Lourdes, Pagadian City, ZDS. They gathered biomass, necro mass and soil data. All participants we’re very active giving their full support on the activity. At the end, participants were able to know how to analyze the data gathered from the NGP plantations and present results/ interpretations of the study.
Carbon sequestration is a process by which carbon is either removed from the atmosphere or diverted from emission sources and stored in the oceans, terrestrial environments (vegetation and soil sediments), and geologic formations. Through this study, we will be able to determine how the NGP is implemented whether it is a failure or success through its ability to absorb/ store carbon.
DENR IX will continue to support and provide valuable training to constituents in order to develop a set of skillful personnel for the benefit of the present and future generation.
