In celebration of World Wildlife Day 2022 with the theme “Recovering key species for Ecosystem Restoration”, various rehabilitated wildlife has been released by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) IX Zamboanga Peninsula.
 
The first release was made in Barangay Sumbato, Dimataling, Zamboanga del Sur, with the release of a White-bellied Sea Eagle (Haliaeetus leucogaster) and Rufuos Night-heron (Nycticorax caledonicus).
 
The second release was 2 Reticulated Python (Malayopython reticulatus) in the forested area of Baclay, Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur and A yellow-headed water monitor lizard (Varanus cumingi) and Asian Palm Civet Cat (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus) in Cogon Ecotourism Park, Dipolog City.
 
These wildlife has been turned over to DENR IX and has been placed under the Regional Wildlife Rescue Center in Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur for proper rehabilitation before its release back to its natural habitat.
 
The World Wildlife Day is celebrated every March 3 as proclaimed by the United Nation General Assembly to raise awareness for the conservation and protection of wildlife.
