In Celebration of World Wildlife Day 2022 with the theme “Recovering Key Species for Ecosystem Restoration” and its continued commitment to spread awareness on environmental concerns, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) IX through its Regional Strategic Communication and Initiatives Group (RSCIG) together with the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) IX, Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) IX, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Zamboanga Sibugay, Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Zamboanga City, and Isabela City Monitoring Station conducted a two-day Emvironmental Forum for Sangguniang Kabataan Youth Leaders, Senior Citizens and Persons with Disability at Querexeta Foundation Center in Isabela City, Basilan on March 2 -3, 2022.
The two-day event aims to promote inclusive approach to all sectors in the protection, proper management and conservation of the environment and natural resources. Keys speaker on topics such as Climate Change, Biodiversity Conservation, Basilan Natural Biotic Area, Solid Waste Management, No to Single Use Plastic, Responsible Mining, Geo-Hazards, and Tayo Ang Kalikasan, were invited to discuss their knowledge on respective topics.
There were 45 Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairpersons representing each barangay in Isabela City, who attended the first day mini forum. The highlight of the event was the signing of the Tayo Ang Kalikasan covenant which symbolizes the commitment between DENR IX and the SK Federation President of Isabela City and Basilan Youth In Action for Sustainable Future for the implementation of environmental projects and programs.
The second day was attended by around 45 members from the senior citizens and PWD sector of Isabela City. Members from the said sector shared their sentiments on relevant environmental issues which affects their locality. A positive discourse between the DENR IX team and senior citizens and PWDs was achieved at the end of the event.
DENR IX will continue its commitment in spreading environmental awareness to all its stakeholders through the conduct of information campaigns to generate advocacy and mobilize the citizenry in the protection of our environment and natural resources.
