A facebook post of a concerned citizen seeking the help from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) regarding an injured bird in his custody caught the attention of the Wildlife Team of CENRO Guipos in Zamboanga del Sur.
Mr.William Arnejo found a Falcon Dumagat (common name) with a scientific name Falcon Columbarius in his farm in Tigbao, Zamboanga del Sur on February 24, 2022 with 2 injuries in the chest area believed to have been possibly inflicted by an airgun. Thus, he posted in facebook calling the attention of DENR for immediate help.
The wildlife team then met Mr. Arnejo in order to receive and bring the falcon to the Regional Wildlife Rescue Center(RWRC) in Baclay, Tukuran, ZDS. Currently the retrieved Falcon is under treament by veterinarians of the RWRC. Once deemed fully recovered and healthy, it will then be released back to the wild as it continue to serve its purpose in our ecosystem.
