The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) IX Zamboanga Peninsula joins the Mini-Caravan organized by the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) at the Municipal Gymnasium in Poblacion, Lakewood, Zamboanga del Sur (for Barangay Baking beneficiaries) and Basilan National High School Multipurpose Hall, Isabela, Basilan Province on September 20, 2021 and September 24, 2021 respectively.

The event was organized by the PCUP through the Poverty Reduction, Livelihood and Employment Cluster (PRLEC) under the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) as a whole-of-nation approach through convergence and good governance.

The activity aims to bridge the gap between government services and the urban poor. In order for communities, especially in far-flung areas to become aware of what the government has to offer, various National Government Agencies (NGAs) convene to disseminate information and extend basic services to the localities.

As a member of the PRLEC cluster, DENR IX team offered various services such as consultations on issues and concerns on Land Titling, National Greening Program, Water Code of the Philippines, Climate Change, Bioldiversity Conservation, Benefits of Bamboo, and Solid Waste Management. Aside from this, a small group discussion was also conducted, as well as the distributions of Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials to the participants for them to have a better understanding on the DENR mandate as well as its programs and projects.

About 2,000 free seedlings of various indigenous species (Lawaan, Bakan, Red Nato, Mangium, Malatambis and Malabayabas) were also given to the participants and the team prepared fun games with exciting prizes such as limited edition of DENR IX Tayo ang Kalikasan umbrellas, shirts, eco-bags, hand fans, face masks and mouse pads.

Collectively 120 participants were estimated to have availed of the DENR IX services in the mini-caravan.

Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, government agencies will continue to fulfill its mandate in giving quality services to the people, while ensuring to observe the health guidelines and protocols set by the IAFT.
