Zamboanga del Norte… Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) IX through its Community Environment and Natural Resources Offices (CENROs) of Siocon, Piñan and Manukan conducts their respective activities in celebration of World Wildlife Day with the theme “Forest and Livelihood: Sustaining People and Planet” on March 3, 2021.
CENRO Siocon conducted a house-to-house Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign in Sitio Otso and Java, Barangay Kilalaban, Biliguan, Zamboanga del Norte.
The CENRO Siocon team was able to relay salient features of the “Wildlife Resource Conservation and Protection Act” or R.A. 9147 and “Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000” or R.A 9003 to the indigenous and local communities in the area. Pamphlets and leaflets on the said topic were also distributed.
On the other hand, CENRO Piñan in collaboration with the Local Government (LGU) of Dapitan City, Philippine National Police Maritime and Dapitan City Agricultures Office released two (2) female Green Sea turtles in Dawo Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte. The said turtles were in a hatchery facility for proper care and monitoring prior to its release.
The releasing ceremony was led by CENRO Adelaida Borja and Dapitan Mayor Rosalina G. Jalosjos.
Meanwhile, CENRO Manukan celebrated with 3 environmental activities, which started with a coastal clean-up along the identified marine turtle nesting site at Barangay San Antonio, Manukan, after which a Communication, Education and Public Awareness (CEPA) campaign on Marine Turtle conservation and “Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act” or R.A. 9147 and RA 9003 or the Solid Waste Management Act was conducted to the residents of the said coastal community.
CENRO Manukan culminated their celebration with the release of 53 rescued Olive Ridley turtle hatchlings along the coastline of Barangay Dohinob, Roxas, Zamboanga del Norte.
These activities are some of the many efforts of the department in spreading public awareness and knowledge on the celebration of world wildlife day.
