Mr. Niňo S. Ranes, a resident of Balangasan, Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur, turned over a Reticulated python (Malayopython reticulatus) or "sawa/bitin" to personnel of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Zamboanga del Sur last October 14, 2020.
The snake was found crawling out of the man-hole near Fortune Bakery in Sta. Lucia District, Pagadian City during a heavy downpour and flooding in the area.
Mr. Ranes, together with Mr. Eduardo Capino, rescued the snake barehanded and put it inside a sack. The 3.8-meter long snake which weighed around 12 kilos was then immediately turned over to PENRO ZDS.
The rescued snake was brought to the DENR-IX Wildlife Rescue Center in Baclay, Tukuran, ZDS where it will be cared for before releasing it back to the wild.
