Personnel of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region IX through its Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in Ramon Magsaysay retrieves a Purple Heron (Ardea purpurea) locally known as "Lapay" at Purok 2, Barangay Balucot, Tambulig, Zamboanga del Sur last October 8, 2020.
 
Mr. Raniel Banual, 16 years old and a resident of the said Barangay caught the said bird at around seven o' clock in the evening on October 7, 2020, when he happened to roam at the mountain near their house. He took custody of it while his mother, Mrs. Anna Banual informed the DENR personnel through a call about the captive wildlife.
 
Upon retrieval, the bird was in good condition with only a small wound in its left metacarpal foot.
 
CENRO RM personnel informed the Banual family about Republic Act 9147 also known as the "Wildlife Resource Conservation and Protection Act" emphasizing that keeping a wildlife without a proper facility and permit is illegal. This bird is listed as Least Concern (LC) in the International Union for Conservatiom of Nature Red List of Threatened Species (IUCN Red List).
 
The bird was brought to the Regional Wildlife Rescue Center at Baclay, Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur for proper care and safekeeping until such time it will be fit enough to be released back to the wild.
