Thirty-one Olive ridley turtle hatchlings were released by CENRO Ramon Magsaysay personnel at Brgy. Bulanit, Labangan, ZDS last April 5, 2020 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr. Alejandro C. Placido, a concerned resident of Purok Malasugi of the said barangay, noticed that a number of marine turtle eggs were hatching near the beach at around 7:30 in the evening last April 4, 2020. He immediately informed Brgy. Kagawad Taha Ayonan, who then coordinated with CENRO RM regarding the proper handling of the wildlife. Brgy. Chairman Jaime R. Geguiera then turned over the hatchlings to CENRO RM the next day. The hatchlings were then released at the coast of Brgy. Bulanit, Labangan, ZDS.

Once the hatchlings exit their nest and reach the sea, the turtles swim to reach open ocean zones, finding food and refuge from their many predators. Once they become adults, they return to the beach area where they were born to lay their own eggs.

DENR 9 continues to respond to environmental concerns and conduct rescue and retrieval operations regarding wildlife conservation amidst the Enhanced Community Quarantine proclamation in the province.
