The Department of Environment and Natural Resources IX, led by OlC Regional Executive Director Arturo E. Fadriquela, thru the Assistant Regional Director for Management Services Dante A. Oporto, joined the simultaneous conduct of the Community Passion (ComPassion) Project at Purok Gumamela in Barangay Guituan, lpil, Zamboanga Sibugay on November 14, 2023.
The ComPassion Project has chosen to assist thirty-six (36) families in total. These families are members of the indigenous group in their community.
The group started the day with a tree-growing activity at the JC Binhi Arboretum situated within the barangay. The DENR-9 officials and personnel were joined by the local residents and persons with disabilities in planting species of Tanguile, Almon, Almaciga, and Yakal.
A program and gift-giving followed the tree-growing. Guituan's outgoing Barangay Captain, Hon. Violeta C. Presno expressed gratitude to the facilitators for their attendance and hard work in reaching out and helping the recipients.
The newly elected Barangay Captain, Hon. Wilmer Acquin, also expressed his gratitude to the people behind the said activity.
The recipients also heard a motivating message from Dr. Dante A. Porto, Assistant Regional Director for Management Services.
Throughout the event, the locals engaged in a variety of activities such as parlor games. The children also enjoyed short storytelling with books produced by DENR and art books.
The families were also given groceries and sack of rice on the same day. This donation was in collaboration with the Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Government, led by Governor Ann K. Hofer. Additionally, with the help of the Department of Agriculture IX, a variety of vegetable seeds were given to the beneficiaries in an effort to encourage backyard gardening in the neighborhood. Food packs were also enjoyed by the community after the gift-giving.
Also present during the activity were OlC Chief Technical Services Division of PENRO Zamboanga Sibugay, Reynaldo C. Cuaresma, OlC CENRO of Imelda Neneth T. Ordoño, and Deputy Chief of CENRO Kabasalan Engr. Roseller B. Tumamut.
The ComPassion Project is conducted to create a positive change and extend help to a remote local community and as part of the agency’s participation in the 50th Anniversary of the Career Executive Service Board (CESB).
