Personnel from the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Guipos in Zamboanga del Sur celebrates the 8th World Wildlife Day thru the conduct of a barangay forum to higlight the importance of Wildlife and the laws that protects and conserve the Philippine flora and Fauna.
This was held in Barangay Danan, Vincenzo Sagun, Zamboanga del Sur on March 03, 2021 and was participated by the barangay local officials, barangay health workers, the Fisherfolks and the organized LGBTQIA+ group
Aside from R.A. 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Conservation Act, Wildlife permitting was also discussed as well as the importance of conserving and protecting the Marine Turtles, as this barangay is very close to Triton Island, the known nesting site in the area. Salient points on R.A. 11038 or the eNIPAS act was also discussed to the audience since Vincenzo Sagun is among the 6 municipalities that comprises the Dumanquillas Bay Protected Seascape and Landscape (DBPLS).
After the series of lectures, “Totong the Kitong”, the mascot of DBPLs, was introduced to the crowd to encourage them to continue to help protect natural resources including the wildlife within the protected area and to always be reminded that a healthy environment relies greatly on mankind’s responsible management. After Totong’s appearance, coastal clean up and scubasurero activities were conducted. A total of 7 sacks of plastic trash and other non-biodegradable materials were collected and were disposed by their barangay solid waste management team.
