TINUYOP, Leon B. Postigo, ZN – More than sixteen (16) thousand seedlings of forest trees and vegetables were distributed by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) IX in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture IX today, June 18, to farmers and residents of Barangay Tinuyop, Leon B. Postigo, Zamboanga del Norte.
Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services Ronald D. Gadot in his message said the vegetable seedlings distribution's aim was to meet Food Available In The Home (FAITH) while the forest trees will offer watershed protection and prevent soil erosion.
Tinuyop Barangay Chairman Junie Dela Cruz was grateful to the initiative of the two agencies in helping their constituents in this time of crisis.
Of the 16 thousand seedlings, 7, 671 were forest trees composed of Bakan, Lumbayao and Mangium to be planted at their respective farms and 8,400 were variety of vegetables for backyard farming.
The vegetable seedlings were produced at DENR IX's Mechanized and Modernized Forest Nursery (MMFN) in Baclay, Tukuran with the technical assistance of DA IX while the forest seedlings were propagated by the same nursery.
