Secretary Roy A. Cimatu conducts visit in Region 9

“We are all in this together.”

This was what DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu said on the various massive undertakings of the environment agency during his visit to PENRO Zamboanga del Norte in Dipolog City last February 20, 2019.

Secretary Cimatu’s visit was the first time in a long time that an environment chief visited Dipolog City. The last Secretary Visit was that of Secretary Fulgencio S. Factoran, the first Secretary of the reorganized DENR.

According to Secretary Cimatu, the agency is set to rehabilitate a lot of areas and give attention to where it is due.

“We will continue what we have started in Boracay. Our focus next is Panglao, Siargao, El Nido, Puerto Galera, Baguio and, the most challenging of all, Manila Bay,” Secretary Cimatu said

“We will add more people in the field offices to handle environmental concerns. No matter where you are assigned or what you do, you have the knowledge of all the aspects of the DENR,” he added.

Further, Secretary Cimatu said that he has requested the Department of Budget and Management for an increase of the current workforce of the DENR.

“I requested for the creation of an Enforcement Bureau that would focus on the enforcement of all our environmental laws. When we hire more people then eventually we will serve more people,” Secretary Cimatu added.

Likewise, Secretary Cimatu said that he is strengthening the career system of the DENR that will look after the careers of personnel instead of the current system where people apply for promotions.

Secretary Cimatu said that with the success of Boracay, the image of the DENR and his image as DENR Secretary has improved and was even given the best score among government agencies during the Cabinet Meeting last February 14.

“We had a tough time but, due to political will, [together] were able to do it,” said Secretary Cimatu.

After PENRO Zamboanga del Norte, the environment chief proceeded to PENRO Oroquieta and CENRO Ozamiz for the rest of his field offices visit.secintefce2
