Launching of Tayo ang Kalikasan in Zamboanga Peninsula

“What can we do to take care of the environment?” This was the challenge aired by Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 9 Executive Director Carlito M. Tuballa yesterday to various environmental stakeholders during the Regional launching of the Tayo ang Kalikasan movement in Pagadian City.

Addressing local chief executives, heads of offices, religious groups, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Presidents of Civic Organizations and other Civil Society Groups. Director Tuballa outlined the poor state of our country’s environment and natural resources and how government is exerting its efforts to address these problems utilizing the “ridge to reef approach and to partner with individuals or groups that share the same environmental ideals.

Director Tuballa reiterated the appeal of DENR Secretary Roy M. Cimatu that the protection of the environment is everybody’s concern and responsibility. It should become an obligation for all to take care of our remaining natural resources.

“Let us pool our resources and start an unending series of environmental activities. We can start at home by practicing waste management and expanding towards the community”, he added.

The stakeholders expressed their commitment to “prioritize the protection and well-being of the environment and natural resources in all of their activities” by signing the covenant of membership and implement specific programs supporting the government’s Community-Based Forest Management and the Expanded National Greening Program, and initiatives and innovations on solid waste management, ecotourism and conservation of protected areas.

The Tayo ang Kalikasan is a citizen’s movement for environmental stewardship and sustainable development of our natural resources. This is in line with the mandate of the department of mobilizing the citizenry in conservation and management of the country’s environment and natural resources.
