Turn-over and release of a Reticulated Python (Python reticulatus) into the wild

One reticulated python (Python reticulatus) was turned-over to DENR-PENRO Zamboanga del Norte on March 15, 2018 at 5:50 in the afternoon by the barangay officials of Barra, Dipolog City namely Rolly Vayloces and Rene Edaga and was released into the wild of Cogon Ecotourism Park on March 19, 2018 at 10:50 in the morning by DMO III Heracleo M. Calasang Jr., PENRO-ZN personnel and assisted by Rico M. Balares, staff of Cogon Ecotourism Park, Cogon, Dipolog City.

The said wildlife was caught by the students of Barra National High School around 5:22 in the afternoon of March 15. It was accidentally seen by the students creeping under the trees in the school park. They successfully captured it by grabbing the snake with caution. The students immediately reported and turned-over the snake to the Barangay Tanod of Barra, Dipolog City and subsequently referred to PENRO-ZN.

The snake was in good health condition. By observation, the python’s estimated size is 7 ft long and 1.75 inches in diameter. Upon rigid examination of DMO III Calasang, it was immediately released in nearby forest, the Cogon Ecotourism Park.

Lizards and other wild animals are present in Cogon EcoPark which will serve as the main preys of the python.

DENR salutes the above-named wildlife lovers and barangay officials/law enforcers who showed their concern for the protection and conservation of our wildlife! (Maribel G. Acama)
