Gov. Antonio H. Cerilles signed the Executive Order on the Institutionalization of Zamboanga del Sur Solid Waste Management Program last September 17, 2016 at Subanen Hall, Farmer’s Haven, Dao Compound, Pagadian City.
The launching was simultaneous with the celebration of the National Clean-Up Day with the theme, “Bayan Ko, Linis Ko” and the 64th Araw ng Zamboanga del Sur with the theme, “Una sa Kausaban… Abante, Zamboanga del Sur.” It was attended by the Mayors within the province, the members of the Association of Barangay Captains and the Philippine Councilors League, heads of the Provincial Government Office, the Boy Scouts of the Philippines Pagadian City Council, JCI Greater Pagadian and JCI Yllana, the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officers (MENROs), representatives from DENR, DILG, PNP, DepEd, JHCSC, and other invited guests.
The EO aims to mobilize all sectors, down to the barangay level, to participate in clean-up activities, in coordination with DILG. It was issued to strengthen solid waste avoidance and volume reduction, and promote environmental education. It created a Provincial Steering Committee chaired by PENRO Tito L. Gadon and co-chaired by Gov. Antonio H. Cerilles “to oversee implementation, coordination, and monitoring of provincial comprehensive and ecological management in support of the solid waste management programs of the government.”
“This will serve as an inspiration to other local governments,” Senator Joseph Victor G. Ejercito, the guest speaker of the event, remarked as he lauded the efforts of the province in environmental protection, especially since “this kind of issue is seldom discussed to give way to other concerns.” He congratulated the Provincial Government of ZDS for its vision and commitment to development.
